Slang.
Spread through Twitter and Vine-descended meme formats around 2019, originally as a mock-aggressive surprise ("you have failed the vibe check"). The sincere usage grew afterward and has largely overtaken it.
Now used two ways: genuinely, as a check-in on how someone is doing, and jokingly, as a verdict on whether something meets an unstated standard. "Passed the vibe check" is approval. As an engagement prompt it works because it invites a one-word answer, which is a low bar to clear for a comment.
Safe, and one of the better comment prompts in this list because answering takes no effort. The mock-aggressive original sense has faded enough that it will not be misread.
An informal assessment of someone’s mood or the feel of a situation.

It began as a mock-threatening meme in 2019 but is now used mostly sincerely, as a check-in.
